The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has initiated the process of gazetting the proposed change of name of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s The Equitable Party (TEP) to Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).

In a letter dated October 13, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties J. C. Lorionokou confirmed that the office had reviewed documents submitted by the party and started the gazettement process.

The proposed name change follows a resolution passed by the party’s National Executive Committee during a meeting held on October 8, 2026.

ORPP has asked the party to report any public representations received after 14 days from the publication of the proposed name change in the Daily Nation newspaper and explain how they have been addressed.

The process is being undertaken in accordance with the Political Parties Act, which provides for public representations on proposed party name changes.
