PRESIDENT RUTO LAUNCHES RAILA ODINGA MAUSOLEUM AT KANG’O KA JARAMOGI

President William Ruto Wednesday officially launched and dedicated the mausoleum of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya county.

Joined by Mama Ida Odinga, clergy, family members and other honorary guests the head of state led the ceremony and afterwards a memorial service was conducted.

President Ruto paid tribute to the late through a presidential citation highlighting Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s politics and democracy. He described the late Raila Odinga as a patriot, Pan Africanist, a Statesman and a leader of uncommon courage who gave his life for the pursuit of freedom, justice and a Kenya with plenty within its borders.

Ruto spoke about Raila’s political career whereby he highlighted the hard times he faced including darkness, detention, sacrifice and political adversity. Despite of everything he underwent in his quest, the late Odinga remained steadfast in his fight for a fair and democratic country.

”For decades he walked at the center of Kenya’s long journey towards expanding her democratic space, through years of darkness, detention, sacrifice and adversity, he did not yield, ”Ruto said.

”He became a light to those who sought a freer nation, illuminating a path towards a more just, democratic and prosperous Kenya.” President Ruto added.

”He was a once in a generation leader whose vision transcended politics and whose life became woven into the fabric of the republic of Kenya, ” President Ruto observed.

He went ahead to say that Kenya had lost not only a statesman but a leader who was at the forefront of championing for Kenya’s democracy.

According to President Ruto, the mausoleum will forever serve as a reminder of Raila’s contribution to the country’s democracy and not only as his final resting place.

”May his memorial endure a solemn testament to his life and service to the ideals of democracy, equitable development, true revolution and national unity which he gave us all,” Ruto said.

Mama Ida Odinga said that mausoleum will remain a reminder of Raila’s public service and a peace sanctuary
