Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has pledged to scrap off taxes and levies introduced by the Kenya Kwanza administration within the first 100 days in office if elected by Kenyans in the 2027 General Elections.
Sifuna spoke during the unveiling of the Linda Mwananchi Movement’s National Headquarters in Nairobi, saying his administration would prioritize easing the financial burden on Kenyans by removing taxes on essential services and eliminating ‘budgeted corruption.’
He proposed the cutting of Ksh.500 million from the national budget and redirecting the funds to benefit ordinary Kenyans.
He criticized Kenya Kwanza government spending on food and entertainment, questioning how billions of shillings could be spent on such items while the health sector continued to face serious challenges following the nurses strike that lasted for 45 days.
“Tunataka tukiingia siku mia moja za kwanza, tukate wastage na sherehe ambao watu wanapiga State House,” he noted.
Sifuna went ahead to say that the Linda Mwananchi Movement would ensure adherence to the constitution and the rule of law which is important in preventing lawlessness in the country.
He emphasized that any person aspiring for a presidential seat must be committed to upholding the constitution before assuming office.
He advocated for a government that respects and upholds human rights and equality. Who told you that you can enjoy Article 3 rights when you are on the ground? Who has told you William Ruto?” he posed a question.
According to Sifuna, the movement would hold a National Delegates Convention on November 13, 2026, to affirm the proposed party structures. This convention will also set the stage for the establishment of grassroots offices across the country in a bid to have them operational before the end of November.
