The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the extended closure of the Eldoret Road in Eastlands, Nairobi, for three more months till December 30th. The announcement comes after the stated road was expected to reopen at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.
“We wish to notify the general public that the closure of the section of Eldoret Road, Nairobi, earlier communicated to run from 6 a.m Monday 18 May, 2026 till 6 p.m Friday 18th September, 2026 has been extended until 6 p.m Wednesday 30 December, 2026.” KURA said in a public notice.
The authority states the delay comes because of unforeseen logistical and site-related challenges such as delayed construction material and equipment.
In the statement the authority said the challenges faced were beyond the contactor’s control and they aim to complete the works within the revised timeframe.
“The Authority and the contractor remain committed to completing the works to the required safety and quality standards within the revised timeline” KURA said.
The motorists are urged to continue using the alternative routes stated earlier while following the guidelines of traffic police and traffic marshals.
The Eldoret Road was closed early this year to enable the construction of the Vehicular Bridge across the Nairobi River as a way of improving connectivity and easing movement within the Eastlands area.
At the same time KURA has also announced closure of a section of the Mlolongo – Kamulu Road (Quarry Road) effective on Thursday, 1 October, 2026 until Tuesday, 1 December, 2026. The authority states that the disruption will allow the contractor to carry out essential construction works.
KURA advised motorists to be cautious when approaching the affected section and to follow all traffic signs and instructions given by police officers and traffic marshals to ensure smooth traffic flow. Motorists using the route are also encouraged to follow the stated alternative routes.
