“KENYA NI YA WAKENYA,” NYORO SLAMS PUKOSE OVER REMARKS ON UGANDANS VOTING IN KENYA IN 2027

People’s Party of Kenya party leader Ndindi Nyoro has condemned remarks attributed to Endebess MP Robert Pukose regarding cross-border voting from Uganda ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general elections, who warned that anyone attempting to block or monitor the voters crossing into Kenya would face deadly consequences.

Addressing a public rally at Athiru Gaiti Market in Maua, Meru County, after attending a church service at the East Africa Pentecostal Church, Nyoro described Pukose’s remarks as divisive, warning that such statements could heighten tensions among communities living along the Kenya-Uganda border.

Nyoro called on political leaders to exercise restraint in their public statements, saying leaders should avoid language that could fuel ethnic hatred or create unnecessary tensions as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.

On education, Nyoro accused the government of failing to take the sector seriously, citing agreements signed with university lecturers that he said have not been fully implemented. He called on the government to honour collective bargaining agreements with lecturers, warning that failure to do so could undermine the education sector.

Nyoro also criticised the proposed tertiary education funding model, saying replacing university scholarships with loans would increase the financial burden on students and their families.

Turning to the miraa sector, Nyoro accused the government of failing to protect miraa farmers from cartels that he said continue to frustrate the industry. He claimed that despite repeated government promises to address the challenges facing miraa farmers, little has been done to deliver lasting solutions, saying farmers have suffered for too long and require decisive government intervention.

Nyoro also raised concerns over insecurity and livestock theft, particularly in parts of North Eastern Kenya, accusing the government of failing to adequately protect its citizens. He said providing security and safeguarding livelihoods should be among the government’s key responsibilities, while urging leaders to focus on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
