MPS QUESTION KINDIKI’S CORONATION AS MT KENYA KINGPIN, INSIST UHURU KENYATTA IS STILL THE VOICE OF THE REGION

Deputy President Kindiki’s coronation as Mt Kenya region’s kingpin and spokesperson has been disputed by some UDA MPs. The MPs include George Kariuki of Ndia, George Koimburi of Juja and George Gachagua of Ndaragwa who have alleged that the ceremony that took place hastily and secretly at Kirigiti stadium in Kiambu county, to the exclusion of some elders.

Speaking during a meeting in Juja constituency with Kiama Kia Ma elders, the law makers maintained that the mantle is still held by former President Uhuru Kenyatta who assumed the role in 2011.

”The ceremony is not political but communal therefore all elders from GEMA community should have been consulted. The crown won by the community’s leaders fell from Kindiki’s head indicating a failed process,” MP George Kariuki said.

” The ceremony did not involve elders therefore lacks the community’s blessings,”he added.

MP Koimburi said: ” The region cannot led by a leader who has been working together with other leaders in government to divide Mt Kenya region.”

He stated that Kindiki has failed to stamp his authority in government, reason why he is being left out of many state tours including the recent Nyanza tour by President Ruto.

On his part, Juja MP George Koimburi said that the time is right for Mt Kenya to choose an able leader who will prioritize the region’s interests, describing the coronation as a ‘sideshow’

Kikuyu elders, Maina wa Kibe and Mwangi Kagumo, have also complained of being left out of the process and only learnt of it through the media. They have also claimed that the ceremony was not done in accordance with Kikuyu customs while another elder believes that the occasion should have been widely publicized.
