MTRH QUARANTINES ONE PATIENT FOR EBOLA MONITORING

The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret has placed one person under isolation for 21 days for Ebola monitoring following contact tracing linked to confirmed cases.

MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr Philip Kirwa said the person was identified through contact tracing and clarified that isolation for monitoring does not mean the individual has tested positive for Ebola.

“We have no Ebola-infected patients. Quarantine is not equal to being an infected person,” Dr Kirwa said.

The hospital has urged the public to remain calm, explaining that the person will be monitored and released if they do not develop Ebola symptoms.

Dr Kirwa also called on Kenyans to distinguish between precautionary public health measures and confirmed infections.

Kenya has so far recorded nine Ebola cases. In its latest update, the Ministry of Health said eight patients were stable and responding to treatment, while all 135 identified contacts had been traced and placed under quarantine.

The Ministry reported no new cases as of October 22, 2026. The first group of contacts is expected to be released from quarantine on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
