President William Ruto attended a WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he showed his support for Kenyan rookie Madina Okot.

Ruto shared photos from the September 23, 2026 game, including a selfie with Okot, who was wearing her Atlanta Dream jersey. Other images showed the President in the stands watching the action and holding a basketball at the venue.

Okot, a 6’6″ centre from Mumias, Kenya, was selected 13th overall by the Atlanta Dream in the 2026 WNBA Draft, making her the highest-drafted Kenyan player in WNBA history.

The 24-year-old began playing basketball in 2020 before progressing to college basketball in the United States, where she played for Mississippi State and South Carolina.

On the night, the Atlanta Dream defeated the New York Liberty 83-65 in their regular-season finale.

Atlanta took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring New York 23-7 to establish a commanding lead. Allisha Gray led the Dream with 24 points, while Naz Hillmon added 16.

The victory secured Atlanta the No. 4 seed in the WNBA playoffs, while New York finished the regular season as the No. 8 seed.

Okot, wearing jersey No. 11, made a brief appearance off the bench. She played about three minutes, scoring two points on one-of-one shooting and recording two rebounds and two fouls.

Despite her limited playing time in the game, Okot has featured regularly during her rookie season, averaging about 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in roughly nine minutes per game.

President Ruto who is currently in the U.S to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City attended the match adding to the national attention surrounding Okot’s historic entry into the WNBA and her emergence as one of Kenya’s prominent basketball talents on the international stage.
