NDINDI NYORO DEMANDS VOTER REGISTER DISCLOSURE, TRANSPARENCY IN DANGOTE REFINERY DEAL AHEAD OF 2027

People’s Party of Kenya party leader Ndindi Nyoro has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to publish the voter register, accusing the government of allowing foreigners, including Ugandans, to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election. Nyoro says the public must be allowed to scrutinize the register to ensure that only eligible Kenyan citizens participate in the elections.

Addressing a public rally in Naromoru town, Nyeri County, Nyoro claimed that the registration of foreigners could be part of an attempt to interfere with the outcome of the 2027 elections. He said the opposition will not allow non-Kenyans to be registered as voters, insisting that the electoral process must be transparent and credible.

The PPK leader also renewed his demand for the scrutiny and public disclosure of shareholders in the proposed Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu. Nyoro said President Ruto should not get angry when Kenyans demand answers on investments involving the country, insisting that the identities of all shareholders should be made public.

Nyoro has further demanded that the government clearly explain the returns Kenyans will receive from the more than 7,000 acres of land on which the refinery is being established.

The PPK leader has also demanded that any agreement be made public, including the prices of the products for the refinery firm, saying Kenyans must be assured that the multibillion-shilling project will generate broad public benefits rather than becoming a project designed to make money for a few individuals.

Nyoro said the opposition supports international investors coming into the country but maintained that such investments must be subjected to transparency and public scrutiny. He criticised President Ruto’s response to his calls for disclosure of the refinery’s shareholders, saying Kenyans have a right to seek answers on major investments involving national resources.

The PPK leader also accused the President of benefiting himself from Kenyan resources, citing the government-to-government fuel arrangement and the affordable housing programme. He claimed that Kenyans have lost confidence in the government’s development initiatives.

Nyoro further called on President Ruto to accord retired President Uhuru Kenyatta the respect he deserves, accusing the Head of State of using insults against his predecessor. He attributed what he described as failures of the current administration to President Ruto’s leadership, as he urged opposition leaders to remain united ahead of the 2027 General Election.
